History

In 2017 a number of UK Aqua Park Operators got together to discuss safety and standards across the industry. Water Safety being paramount, it was an easy decision to decide to work with the RLSS with regards to standards and qualifications at our parks. During 2018, the RLSS contacted all of the Aqua Park operators within the UK and IRL and invited them to engage in the process of creating an association for our Industry.

Minimum operating standards were created and agreed upon in a meeting held at the RLSS headquarters, in which all the operators present agreed (approx 40 Parks).

Current Partnership:

We continue to work with the RLSS, in a truly valuable partnership, with dialogue throughout each operating season. They are always on hand with expert advice, particularly in the areas of first aid and safety.

The industry recommends using their qualification framework, to qualify both lifeguards and lifeguard trainers. Working together we have introduced an industry specific qualification, the Aqua Park Module, which is delivered as a bolt on to the Open Water Lifeguard qualification. This gives newcomers to our industry the understanding that they need to begin their careers.

RLSS UK supply the independent auditors, who undertake accreditation visits, according to our agreed criteria, at UK and Ireland Aqua Parks. If a Park does not pass an accreditation visit, they are supported by officers of the Association to meet the required standards.
